Job Description
The Underground Construction Laborer will be responsible for placing conduit and/or cables in trenches, splice conduit sections (install couplers) as directed, place anchors, pedestals, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of the construction industry.
Essential duties & responsibilities
Assist in the loading/unloading of equipment, materials and supplies needed for daily work
Must assist leadership (Foreman and or Supervisor) with all duties
Must be able to operate tamps, jackhammers, core drills, concrete saws, and other miscellaneous equipment safely
Hand dig with shovels, picks, digging bars to expose located utilities, access u/g vaults and pedestals, and complete trenches
Place conduit and/or cables in trenches, splice conduits sections (install couplers) as directed, place anchors, pedestal, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks
Fully restore worksite at completion of daily work, refill trenches and holes, tamp soil, replant any plants or shrubs that were disturbed during our construction, place temporary asphalt on streets where excavations have been performed
When required and if appropriately licensed and authorized, drive or operate construction equipment used on the job site to complete daily work assignments
Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use
Capable of working in all temperatures and climates
Able to perform physical tasks for the entire assigned work shift
Other duties may be assigned consistent with job description
Requirements
High School diploma or GED required
Previous experience and knowledge of underground utility construction a must
Ability to operate all equipment safely and productively
Knowledge and understanding of reading drawings and ability to follow specifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with crew, leadership, and clients
Valid Driver's License
OSHA 10 Certification
Current CPR Certification
Function effectively as an integral part of a team
Must be able to meet physical demands of the position
Work safely in all conditions
Possess knowledge of Industry standard safe working practices
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record
Must be able to pass background check and drug screen
Must be available to travel to various sites as required outside of SC
Physical Requirements
Standing - 6 to 8 hours daily
Walking - 6 to 8 hours daily
Bending/Stooping - 6 to 8 hours daily
Repetitive Movement (shoveling/sweeping) - 6 to 8 hours daily
Lifting (weights up to 100 lbs.) - Occasionally
Lift and Carry (50/60 lbs. for 20 feet) - Regularly
Push / Pull - 6 to 8 hours daily

Work Environment
Work environment is dictated by weather. There is potential for extremely hot or cold temperatures, work outdoors in snow or rain.
Physical Demands
This position requires standing and walking for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be able to crawl and bend to get into tight spaces. Requires working in and around heights as there is work in bucket truck and/or climbing of poles,
